Whoopi Goldberg called herself "a working person" on "The View," and not everyone is happy with the EGOT winner because of it.
During a panel discussion during Tuesday's episode, the daytime show co-hosts chatted about U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's viral Instagram story asking followers in her district why they voted for her, a Democrat from New York, as well as President-elect Donald Trump.
"I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me too. I work for a living," Goldberg said in response to co-host Sunny Hostin's comments about how the 2024 elections results were affected by voter perceptions of the economy.
Hostin also noted that voters were impacted by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Goldberg later added: "If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, OK? So, I'm a working person."

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said, "If you're just trying to get by, people know that they had more money five years ago." The "Sister Act" star then argued that the economy shouldn't be the only topic voters care about.
"My kid has to feed her family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it's hard out there," Goldberg added.
Goldberg's Hot Topics talk elicited backlash as viewers sounded off in the comments section.
"I can't stand these rich Hollywood liberal Millionaires who pretend to know what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck," one user wrote on X.
Another X commenter claimed that "Whoopi Goldberg aka Karen, is so out of touch with reality. Here she is saying she's one of us, the working class, while she's worth $60 million dollars."
"The entire panel can not relate to regular people. Please stop! It's condescending to regular people. Have some poor people on the show and learn a few things," one X user said.

Despite the backlash toward Goldberg, the show has delivered ratings gold for ABC News in recent weeks.
The nation's reigning No. 1 daytime talk show just delivered its best overall audience in over three and a half years and hosted its most-watched show in 10 years during their post-election episode where they did a post-mortem on what went wrong for Vice President Kamala Harris.
